Earthquake causes devestation in Japan

The earthquake and subsequent tsumami in Japan has caused a nuclear explosion at a power plant. The Fukushima Plant has had cooling problems since the disasters struck and despite efforts to fix the problems there was nothing to stop the blast.

The blast which has been described as "the third worst nuclear incident in history" is thought to be the first of several at the plant as they are still unable to get things under control.

A 13 mile exclusion zone has been put in place to protect people from further contact with the nuclear fallout, 160 people have thought to have already been exposed.

10's of thousands of people are still missing, and desperate attempts to find survivors continues day and night. A team of 60 volunteers set off from Manchester today to help.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected. If there are any updates or stories of hope from the disaster I will update you.

This is almost 25 years to the day since Chernobyl (about a month) in Russia.... It so sad!!! Xx

I know and Chernobyl is thought to have caused the death, cancer and debilitating illnesses of more than 200,000 people

There has been a second blast at the Fukushima Plant.
Japan's chief cabinet secretary said a
hydrogen explosion had occurred at Unit three of the plant, similar to
the blast that happened earlier at Unit one of the facility. A spokes person at Tokyo Electric Power Company said three workers were injured and seven are missing after the blast. Good news is despite this blast the rectors in side unit 3 have remained intact, meaning there is no higher risk of contamination at this point.

It is heartbreaking to see pictures of all these people having to be screened for radiation, as if they haven't been through enough.
